Recovers Hijacked Vehicle and Firearm

Khayelitsha:- Swift action by members of the Maitland Flying Squad led to the recovery of a hijacked Suzuki and the arrest of two suspects in Lwandle on Tuesday evening.

While on patrol in the Khayelitsha policing precinct, officers received information about the hijacked vehicle and immediately followed up.  At approximately 20:20, they spotted the car near Ntanga Street in Lwandle.

On noticing the patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee in different directions. The officers pursued and swiftly apprehended one of the men, who was found in possession of a firearm with ammunition. Their persistence paid off when they detained a second suspect shortly thereafter.

Both men were taken into custody. One faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, while both will answer for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court soon.
