Becomes “Hopefield Bloekomfees 2026”

CCN Reporter – George April

Hopefield:- West Coast Sports Solutions NPO  has officially changed the name of its major fundraising event scheduled for 16 May 2026 from Weskus Waterfees to Hopefield Bloekomfees 2026.

The decision follows the relocation of the event from its originally planned site along the river to the Ronnie Louw Sports Grounds. Organisers felt the original name no longer accurately reflected the venue and could cause confusion among the public.“Weskus Waterfees was a fitting name when we intended to host the event beside the river,”  “However, with the move to the sports grounds, which are surrounded by Hopefield’s iconic blue gum trees (bloekombome), we decided on a name that better represents the actual town and atmosphere. Hopefield Bloekomfees captures the unique character of our town and the spirit of the day.

The programme remains unchanged and will include a 5km Fun Run, 5x1km Relay races, wheelchair relay, (still in discussing)  70m senior sprint challenge, talent performances, music and family entertainment.

The main objective stays the same: to raise funds for the construction of a safe community swimming pool for the children of Hopefield, who currently have no option but to swim in a dangerous, polluted river dam.
Donations can be made via BackaBuddy:

The R2 SMS competition (send POOL to 41878) continues until 12 May 2026.

From June 2026 the organisation will also begin establishing O/19 7’s Rugby and Netball teams across the West Coast District, giving young people who left school early a second chance through sport.

The “Bloekombome” event will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026 at the Ronnie Louw Sports Grounds under Hopefield’s famous blue gum trees.
