Stolen Property Recovered in Hout Bay Breakthrough
Reporter – George April
Cape Town: – In a significant breakthrough for crime prevention in Hout Bay, a suspect involved in a Theft Out Of Motor Vehicle (TOOMV) case has been arrested, and nearly all stolen property has been recovered.
Last week, Hout Bay experienced a surge in TOOMV incidents, with one resident reporting on Wednesday morning that his vehicle had been remote-jammed at a local shopping centre. Thanks to swift action, surveillance footage was secured, and the suspect, along with the vehicle used, was quickly identified. The suspect had attempted to avoid detection by using a rental car with both number plates removed. A case was promptly opened at Hout Bay SAPS, and police issued a lookout for the vehicle and driver.
Over the long weekend, the vehicle was spotted in Woodstock and successfully intercepted by Woodstock SAPS. The investigating officer from Hout Bay SAPS immediately responded, retrieving both the suspect and the vehicle.
Back at Hout Bay SAPS, the suspect was positively identified as the individual involved in the remote-jamming incident. In a rare and commendable outcome, the investigating officer, through dedicated detective work, managed to recover nearly all the stolen items. This arrest was made possible by the coordinated efforts between the acting branch commander of the detectives and the lead investigator at Hout Bay SAPS. Their professionalism and persistence deserve high praise.
Remote jamming cases rarely result in the recovery of stolen goods, making this a standout success. The continued arrests for TOOMV incidents in Hout Bay serve as a strong message, crime will not go unpunished.
