Cape Town: – The Cape Flats was rocked by two separate violent incidents this week, one in Belgravia and another involving the arrest of a City of Cape Town law enforcement officer. Two men were gunned down early Thursday morning, linked to a gruesome kidnapping and murder case. According to information shared by local sources, the Belgravia shooting occurred in Hadji Ebrahim Crescent when two men were shot and killed. The incident sparked immediate unrest, with residents taking to the streets in protest after 9am. Protesters began stoning cars and nearby businesses, prompting law enforcement to intervene.
Authorities managed to restore calm later in the morning, and clean-up operations were underway by midday. Residents were urged to remain cautious when travelling through the area.
In a separate case, the City of Cape Town confirmed that former Law Enforcement officer Thandile Khesa has been dismissed following his arrest in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a man who travelled to Bellville earlier this year to view a vehicle he intended to purchase.
The victim’s body was discovered buried in a shallow grave between Monwabisi Beach and Macassar, following a multi-disciplinary Hawks investigation.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said the 33-year-old victim was kidnapped in Kraaifontein on 16 May 2025. The suspects allegedly demanded a ransom of R100 000, later reduced to R10 000, with R5000 eventually paid into a bank account supplied by the suspects.
Subsequent operations led investigators to Philippi and Kleinvlei, where Mogamat Samuels (33) was arrested. He later pointed out the burial site to police. The investigation also revealed that a City Law Enforcement vehicle, driven by Khesa, was used during the crime.
Khesa and Samuels remain in custody and are due back in court on 29 October.
The City confirmed that the officer was arrested in May and officially dismissed after a disciplinary hearing on 16 September 2025. “The Safety and Security Directorate is assisting investigative agencies in this matter due to the alleged involvement of a former staff member and City resources,” a spokesperson said.
Authorities are appealing to residents for calm amid the ongoing investigations into both incidents.
