Nyanga:- The minibus taxi industry and the Nyanga community are in mourning, following the tragic shooting death of a prominent taxi leader.
The insident took place at the Nyanga Taxi Rank on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The deceased, whose identity has yet to be officially released, was gunned down in what appears to be a targeted attack.
Western Cape Minister of Mobility, Isaac Sileku, has expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the slain taxi leader. Minister Sileku condemned the incident, stating, “This tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the transport sector and the Nyanga community. I trust that the South African Police Service (SAPS) will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are swiftly brought to justice.”
The Minister also called on anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has any relevant information to come forward and assist law enforcement in bringing the perpetrators to justice. “We must work together to ensure that justice is served and that this senseless violence does not continue to plague our communities,” Sileku said.
As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, and the loss of such an influential figure in the local taxi industry has left many grappling with the shock of the incident.
