Cape Flats:- Several communities across the Cape Flats were gripped by violence on Thursday evening, as a wave of shootings left multiple people wounded and residents living in fear.
In Wesbank, a man was shot and wounded near the Silversands Road footbridge just before 6pm. He was rushed to hospital by private vehicle.
In Hanover Park, gunshots rang out twice in Hallans Road – first at 17:48 and again at 18:54 – prompting urgent calls from community members for increased SAPS visibility.
In Valhalla Park, heavy gunfire erupted in Eleanor, Joyce, and Thomas Streets shortly after 8pm. Three men were wounded – two shot in the legs and one in the hand – and were transported to hospital by private vehicle.
Minutes later, in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, shots were fired in Linaria Street, leaving two men wounded. Both victims were also taken to hospital privately.
The violence did not stop there. By 9:39pm, gunshots were reported in Ashgreen Avenue, Epping Forest, Elsies River, with residents pleading for police presence.
Local community safety groups, including #Safety First Unit Group and Chosen 1s Admins Cares, issued multiple alerts warning residents to remain indoors and avoid affected areas.
Despite ongoing police patrols in hotspot zones, residents say they are living in a constant state of fear. One Hanover Park resident told CCN, “We hear the gunfire almost every week. It’s our reality, but it’s not normal.”
The growing number of shootings is a stark reminder that crime is no longer an abstract statistic — it’s the sound of bullets in the streets, the sight of injured neighbours, and the fear that grips every home at night. Communities on the Cape Flats are calling for more than condolences; they demand action, protection, and the right to live without fear.
