Guns and Drugs Seized in Weekend Operations

CAPE TOWN:- Western Cape police made significant breakthroughs over the weekend, seizing multiple illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs during a series of targeted operations.
On Sunday, 10 August 2025, the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit acted on information about an armed suspect in Albertus Court. The 19-year-old man attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition, leading to charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In Hanover Park, Philippi SAPS arrested a 25-year-old during anti-gang patrols. He was caught with a .38 Special revolver and ammunition and will face similar firearm charges.
The day before, Saturday, 9 August, Public Order Police in Petunia Street, Strand, arrested a 22-year-old found with 13 mandrax tablets, 26 packets of crystal meth, and five half mandrax tablets. In a separate arrest on the same street, a 27-year-old was caught with 39 units of cocaine.
In Heideveld, Maitland Flying Squad officers responded to gunfire and pursued a fleeing vehicle. Four men were arrested after police recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition. Later that day in Old Paarl Road, Kraaifontein, the same unit detained a 19-year-old carrying 40 rounds of ammunition.
All suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg, Athlone, Strand, and Kuilsriver Magistrates’ Courts soon.
