Opposition Accuses DA of Dirty Tricks Amid Court Victory
CCN Reporter
Vredendal:- Despite the High Court ruling on Friday confirming the validity of the recent leadership changes within the Matzikama Municipality, the political drama is far from over.
Opposition councillors are now accusing the Democratic Alliance (DA) of using technical legal manoeuvres and “dirty tricks” to secure their court victory.
A video currently circulating on social media shows DA councillor Kito admitting during a council meeting that the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Speaker were removed by a vote of 8 to 7. Following this, the DA called for a caucus to address the matter.
Legal insiders say the DA’s success in court hinged on a technicality, namely, the failure by Speaker Johan to formally submit key video evidence that could have strengthened his case. Without this evidence on record, the court ruled in the DA’s favour.
Opposition parties claim this amounts to underhanded tactics by the DA, designed to cling to power despite losing the council vote.
While the Municipality has indicated it will respect the court ruling for now, opposition parties are considering an appeal, setting the stage for further legal and political battles in Matzikama.
