Cape Town:- A dramatic late-night shootout between Metro Police officers and armed suspects last night, ended in tragedy, when one man was fatally wounded during a chase through Nyanga.
According to officials, Metro Police were patrolling along New Eisleben Road at approximately 10pm on Tuesday night when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. As officers attempted to approach, the driver accelerated and tried to flee the scene. During the high-speed pursuit, passengers in the vehicle opened fire on the police.
Officers returned fire while continuing the chase. The vehicle eventually came to a halt in Nyanga, where three suspects jumped out and attempted to escape on foot. One suspect was quickly apprehended, while another collapsed nearby. Upon inspection, officers discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the scene.
Police recovered two prohibited firearms and live ammunition at the scene. The vehicle used in the incident had been reported stolen in Parow and is believed to be linked to a hijacking attempt earlier the same day.
