One Reservation Band Turns Spotlight on Young SA Talent
CCN Reporting
Cape Town:- From the mountains of KwaZulu-Natal, to the scenic stages of the Western Cape, One Reservation Band is making waves in South Africa’s music scene with their unique pop fusion sound – a vibrant mix of funk, R&B, soul, blues, and more.
The band is currently completing the final track for their debut album, collaborating with top session musicians from around the world, including Clesio Joneze from Mozambique and Brin Addison from Belgium.
At the heart of One Reservation is founder, leader, composer, vocalist, and keyboardist Bev Mac Gregor, a seasoned musician with nearly four decades of professional experience. Music runs in Bev’s veins, her father, the late Johnny Mac Gregor, was a world-renowned jazz guitarist who performed alongside legends like Miriam Makeba and The Shadows, and was rated the 5th best in the world in the 1960s.
Bev’s career highlights are as impressive as they are diverse: she has performed solo and with bands across South Africa and abroad, graced luxury hotels, cruise liners, festivals, and sold-out theatre tribute shows, and shared the stage as a support act for Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels and Vicky Sampson. Her talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including 10 gold medals and overall winner titles at the South African Championships (SACOPA), plus a remarkable 64 gold medals between herself and her Isicathamiya Zulu Choir – achievements that earned her a place on Team USA for her original compositions and vocal performances.
Two years ago, Bev relocated from Durban to the Western Cape with fellow musician Neil, and together they began recording original songs in Bev’s home studio – giving birth to One Reservation Band. In December 2024, they performed at the prestigious Kirstenbosch Gardens, captivating audiences with their fresh, soulful energy.
But Bev’s vision goes far beyond her own career. As an unsigned band, One Reservation dreams of being signed by a record label – but they want to share the journey. The band is opening its doors to young, talented vocalists, offering them the chance to record and perform original material without any fees.
“We want to create songs tailored to each singer’s unique style,” Bev explains. “It’s about giving those who dream of being heard the opportunity to shine.”
The response so far has been overwhelming, with auditions attracting incredible talent from across the Swartland. Originally planning to select one vocalist, the band has now decided to work with as many promising singers as they can manage.
To make this vision sustainable, One Reservation is calling on managers, promoters, communities, and venues to partner with them in showcasing South Africa’s hidden talent. They are especially keen to hear from singers who are reliable, over 18, and able to travel to and from Moorreesburg.
