MEDIA STATEMENT – DIRECTORATE FOR PRIORITY CRIME INVESTIGATION (HAWKS)
WESTERN CAPE:- The Cape Town Regional Court has on Friday September 19 2025, sentenced well-known underworld figure Nafiz Modack (44) to ten years’ imprisonment for corruption, of witch three years was suspended for five years.
This means Modack will serve an effective seven years in direct imprisonment. The court further ruled that he be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The sentencing follows his conviction on 6 June 2025, where it was revealed that Modack colluded with former senior police officer Brigadier Kolindren Govender, who has since pleaded guilty and been sentenced.
Investigations by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit uncovered that Modack, acting with common purpose, paid a total of R146 000 in gratification to Govender in exchange for special treatment.
Govender, in turn, obstructed cooperation between a SAPS Paarl Vehicle Identification Section officer and the investigating officer in a Cape Town Central case. His actions ensured that a Mercedes-Benz linked to Modack, which was central to the investigation, was never seized.
Brigadier Ramovha, Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, welcomed the sentence, praising the investigation and prosecution teams for their persistence in securing justice.
