Police Hunt for Second Suspect
CCN NEWS DESK
CAPE TOWN:- Police in the Western Cape have launched a murder investigation, following the brutal killing of an off-duty Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officer.
The officer’s body was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, 12 October 2025, in Marikana informal settlement, Philippi East.
At around 03:45, the body of the 26-year-old male officer was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest. Preliminary reports suggest the victim and his 30-year-old female colleague were hijacked earlier in the evening in Browns Farm. The female officer managed to escape unharmed and alerted the authorities.
City Law Enforcement members responded swiftly and arrested a 22-year-old suspect believed to be connected to the attack. A second suspect remains at large, wanted on charges of murder, hijacking, and kidnapping.
The arrested suspect will appear in court once formally charged. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, strongly condemned the senseless killing and praised the swift response of law enforcement members that led to the arrest.
“The murder of an officer who dedicated his life to serving the public will not go unpunished. We urge communities to come forward with any information that can help us find the second suspect,” said Patekile.
