Flying Squad & SAPS Units Makes Key Arrests

Cape Town – In a series of decisive police operations,  members of the Maitland Flying Squad and specialized SAPS units, made significant arrests and confiscations on Friday, 10 October 2025.

According to police reports, the Maitland Flying Squad acted swiftly on information about a grey Volkswagen Polo driving around the Strand area with five occupants inside. Officers intercepted the vehicle in Old Main Road, Macassar, where a search revealed SAPS uniform items, a blue light, and dagga inside the car.

The five adult male suspects were immediately arrested for possession of presumed stolen property and possession of dagga. They are scheduled to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

In a separate and unrelated operation, the Anti-Gang Unit, assisted by the SAPS Drone Unit, conducted a targeted search at a premises in 7de Laan, Valhalla Park. During the raid, officers confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and drugs.

An 18-year-old male was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs. He will also appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

These coordinated actions once again highlight SAPS’s continued efforts to curb crime and illegal activities in the Western Cape.
