NABABEEP:- A 33-year-old man from Macassar, identified as Riedewaan “Remmy” Juries, was arrested over the weekend in Nababeep, Northern Cape, for possession of drugs.
According to police spokesperson Captain Ivan Magerman, members of the SAPS acted on information about suspected drug dealing at a property in Bo Street, Nababeep. The property reportedly belonged to the late grandparents of Juries’ companion, Kayla Damon (27).
“Police responded swiftly during a search and seizure operation in the early hours of Sunday morning, around 02:15,” Magerman confirmed. “Officers confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R4,450, along with an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.”
Juries, who is married and resides in Macassar, allegedly travelled to Namakwaland by taxi on Friday evening. Upon his arrival in Nababeep on Saturday morning, he reportedly booked into local accommodation before visiting Damon.
The arrest followed sustained community reports about drug-related activities in the area. Several residents have since praised the police for their ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in the town.
Damon’s aunt, Celine Links, who also lives in Macassar, expressed disappointment over her niece’s involvement.
“Kayla knows Riedewaan is married. That’s not how we were raised,” Links said. “It’s painful to see her use our family home for this kind of behavior.”
Meanwhile, Juries’ wife, Ronlin Juries, spoke from Cape Town, pleading for her husband to return home.
“We have a two-month-old baby and two other children,” she said tearfully. “I forgave him before for his mistake, and now he’s gone again, without a word.”
Both suspects appeared in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court on charges of drug possession and trafficking. Their next court appearance is scheduled for 1 December 2025.
Captain Magerman reaffirmed SAPS’s commitment to combating narcotics in the region, urging residents to continue reporting suspicious activity anonymously.
“We appreciate the community’s cooperation and will continue to act decisively against drug-related crimes,” he said.
