GORDON’S BAY:- Western Cape police have launched an active manhunt for unknown gunmen following the fatal shooting of three men in the parking lot of Gordon’s Bay Mall late Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 21:30 on January 27, when three men aged between 40 and 45 were approached by armed suspects traveling in a vehicle. The gunmen opened fire without warning, killing two victims inside their car and one who was found outside the vehicle, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
“The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle shortly after the shooting,” Potelwa said in a statement. “A triple murder case has been registered for investigation at the Gordon’s Bay police station.”
Police believe the attack may be **gang-related**, though the exact motive remains under investigation. No arrests have been made, and no detailed suspect descriptions or vehicle details have been released publicly yet. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information, urging witnesses or those with leads to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
The shooting has rattled the quiet coastal community of Gordon’s Bay, with residents expressing shock and frustration over the rising tide of gun violence in the Western Cape. Social media reactions highlighted ongoing concerns, with some locals noting they heard gunshots and vehicles speeding away from the scene. Others questioned why such incidents continue despite repeated calls for stronger law enforcement presence.
This latest triple homicide comes amid a string of fatal shootings in the province in early 2026, including a mass shooting in Cape Town’s Marikana informal settlement on January 17 that claimed seven lives.
Police have urged extreme caution in the area and are following all leads in what they describe as a priority investigation.
