WESTERN CAPE:-  A string of weekend operations across the province has led to several arrests for illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs.

On Friday, 19 September, Gugulethu police arrested a 22-year-old man in Siwa Street, KTC, after finding him with an AK47 rifle and seven rounds during stop-and-search duties. That same night, Ravensmead SAPS nabbed a 40-year-old suspect in Uitsig with a Walther 7.65mm pistol and ammunition after he attempted to flee from officers.

In Wynberg, Crime Prevention Unit members raided a house in Gosport Road and discovered a 47-year-old man hiding under a bed. He was arrested after 90 packets of tik and an additional bag of the drug were recovered.

Public Order Police also arrested a 24-year-old suspect in Eureka Estate, Uitsig, after community members alerted officers to gunfire. He was found with a Taurus 9mm pistol (serial number removed) and 12 rounds.

On Saturday, 20 September, Operation Restore II members arrested a 23-year-old man in Delft for drug dealing after recovering a large stash of dagga.

All firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine if they were used in other crimes. The suspects will appear in Athlone, Goodwood, Wynberg, and Bellville Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 22 September 2025.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Thembisile Patekile, praised the members for their efforts and confirmed that similar operations will continue across districts.
