Paris:- South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa, has been confirmed dead in Paris.

According to French media reports, Mthethwa’s body was discovered outside the Hyatt Hotel in the Porte Maillot district. He had reportedly booked a room on the 22nd floor, where investigators found a secured window that had been forced open.

Mthethwa was reported missing by his wife on 29 September after she received what has been described as a “worrying message” from him. French authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) confirmed the ambassador’s passing and said it is in contact with French officials as inquiries continue.

President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences, describing Mthethwa’s death as a tragic loss to the country and acknowledging his years of public service.

At this stage, officials have not provided any details on the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
