Hours Apart as Police Launch Manhunt

CCN Reporter – George April

Khayelitsha:-  The Western Cape is reeling from yet another wave of gun violence after six men were killed in two separate shooting incidents in Makhaza and Harare within hours of each other, contributing to a bloody weekend that has claimed at least 13 lives across the province. In the first incident on Sunday evening, 24 May 2026, three young men aged between 20 and 24 were shot and killed inside an informal dwelling in Khonkxa Street, Makhaza, at approximately 19:30. Family members reportedly heard gunshots and discovered the victims with multiple gunshot wounds inside the structure.

Just hours later, in the early hours of Monday, 25 May 2026, three adult males in their thirties were shot at a shebeen in Endlovini, Harare, at about 01:38. The victims were rushed to a medical facility but later succumbed to their injuries.

Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed that suspects in both incidents fled the scenes and have not yet been arrested. The motives for the shootings remain under investigation.

Western Cape SAPS has mobilised significant resources in response, tasking a team of experienced detectives from the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit with pursuing all leads. Police deployments and operations have been increased in the affected areas to stabilise the situation and prevent further violence.

“Every available resource will be utilised to trace and apprehend those responsible,” SAPS management stated, assuring affected communities of a thorough investigation.

This latest outbreak of violence adds to a grim tally of at least 13 people killed in separate shootings across the Western Cape over the weekend.

A 13-year-old boy has been killed, and two other young men wounded in an attack in Leonsdale, Elsies River.  Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, says they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting which occurred on Sunday night at Stratford Place. The motive for the attack is still unclear at this stage.
