Police Recover Hijacked VW Polo Used in Multiple Crimes
Khayelitsha:- Police made a breakthrough in a hijacking investigation this week.
A 20-year-old suspect found in possession of a stolen vehicle linked to multiple crime, where arrested.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie confirmed that officers from Makhaza police followed up on intelligence that led them to a residence in Lindelwa Street, Ekophumleni, on Wednesday, April 9. There, they recovered a hijacked VW Polo that had been reported stolen in Harare in March.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was used in multiple hijackings, during which false registration numbers were used,” Pojie said.
Officers also discovered a set of falsified number plates in the vehicle’s trunk, raising concerns about a broader criminal network involved in vehicle-related crimes.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once formal charges are laid.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to vehicle hijackings.
