West Coast Business Chamber”
CCN Report
VREDENBURG:– Concerns over poor service delivery and a struggling local economy were highlighted at the recent annual general meeting, of the West Coast Business Chamber, held on Wednesday, March 5.
“The Saldanha Bay municipality, currently run by the Democratic Alliance and supported by the Freedom Front Plus, is under growing criticism for failing to deliver essential services and support economic growth.”
André de Villiers, Chairperson of the Chamber, did not hold back in his comments, saying it’s clear that the Saldanha Bay Municipality has declined over the past few years. “Our service delivery is weaker than ever, and this has become a serious concern for businesses and residents alike,” he said.
More than 150 business owners and members attended the meeting, showing the community’s growing frustration. The Chamber believes that under the leadership of DA Executive Mayor André Truter, the focus has shifted away from serving the people to internal politics and self-promotion.
Councillor Eventhia Vaughan, who was appointed to lead economic and tourism affairs, also came under fire. De Villiers claimed she lacks the knowledge needed for the role, and has not delivered results that support local businesses or attract tourism. “Economic development in the region has gone backward. We need competent people in leadership positions who understand the challenges and know how to support our communities,” he said.
De Villiers also mentioned that despite promises, there has been little to no visible economic progress or support for small businesses. He urged local leaders to take responsibility and work with business owners to turn the situation around.
The Chamber ended the meeting with a strong call for better leadership, transparency, and a renewed focus on economic development to bring hope back to the people of the West Coast.
