Cape Town:- A high-impact operation by the Anti-Gang Unit led to two arrests and the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and drugs in Delft’s N2 Gateway area on Sunday.

In Bagzane Street, police arrested a 24-year-old man after finding a P38 9mm pistol and ammunition in a bedroom cupboard. He now faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as attempted murder linked to a previous case.
Officers then raided a second home in Mandara Street, where a 44-year-old suspect was found with a rifle lacking a serial number, 50 rounds of ammunition, and an extended magazine. He was also arrested.
A third raid in Mulanje Street turned up a .38 Special revolver with a removed serial number, three rounds of ammunition, 277 mandrax tablets, 252 sachets of tik, and cocaine. No arrests were made at this location, but all items were confiscated for investigation.
The two arrested suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.
Shooting in Lwandle Under IPID Review
In a separate incident in Lwandle, police responded to a robbery near Mamampondo Street around 09:30. As suspects fled, one reportedly pointed a firearm at officers, prompting police to open fire. The man escaped, but later community members reported a gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital.
The family of the injured man has since laid a complaint of attempted murder against police. The case has been handed to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for review.
Police continue to intensify operations in gang-affected areas to curb illegal arms and drugs driving violent crime.
