– Samora Machel
Cape Town:- The bodies of three men, believed to be victims of a brutal vigilante-style killing, were discovered in the C Section informal settlement of Samora Machel on Tuesday.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson, Colonel André Traut, the bodies were found in separate but nearby locations.
“It is alleged that the community accused the victims of being armed robbers. They were then allegedly targeted and killed,” Traut explained.
While police await the outcome of post-mortem examinations to confirm the cause of death, initial reports suggest the victims were severely assaulted.
“Vigilantism is condemned in the strongest terms. These acts are illegal and erode the rule of law,” Traut said, warning that those responsible will face prosecution.
The Samora Machel Community Policing Forum (CPF) has also called for calm and urged residents to work with the police. CPF representative Xolani Joga confirmed the incident took place in the Kosovo section of the community.
“We urge residents to assist the police with information and allow them space to do their work,” Joga said. He added that the CPF strongly condemns mob justice.
Joga expressed concern over rising violence in the area, revealing that over 15 murders have been reported in recent weeks. He called on government to urgently intervene.
“If nothing is done, the risk is high that communities will continue taking the law into their own hands,” Joga warned.
No arrests have been made at this stage. Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
