A Dream 14 Years in the Making

Social Viral

Cape Town:-  From the streets of Manenberg  to the steps of the High Court, a local woman’s journey to becoming an admitted attorney,  has captured the hearts of South Africans across social media.

On November 7s  2025, she officially became an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.  The result of a remarkable 14-year journey marked by faith, resilience, and determination.

Her story began at 19, when she dreamed of studying law but could not afford university.  She worked in retail for years,  raising two children and later discovering her talent for baking, which became her side business – and her way to fund her studies.

“I would wake up at 2am to bake,  then go to work,  study late at night,  and still be a mom,”  she recalls.  “The cakes paid for my degree.”

Despite many setbacks,  failing her final module three times,  financial struggles, and even tragedy – she never gave up. During the pandemic, she finally completed her degree through UNISA and began her legal training while caring for a newborn.

This year, after completing her articles and passing all four board exams, her lifelong dream came true.

“Fourteen years later,  I’m finally an admitted attorney.  God’s timing is perfect,”  she says proudly.

Now 38, she hopes her story inspires others,  especially young people from disadvantaged communities.

“To every coloured child reading this,  don’t ever think success is for ‘other people.’  If you’re willing to work hard and stay focused, your dreams are possible.  The opportunity is there for everyone who wants to be somebody.”

Her daughter is now studying law at UWC,  continuing the legacy her mother started.

– From Manenberg and proud of it, her message is simple:

_“Nothing worth having in life will ever come easy,  but it’s always worth it.”
