Cape Town:- The Western Cape E-Hailing Association (WCEA) has dismissed rumours spreading on social media suggesting that e-hailing drivers in Cape Town are preparing for a strike or protest action.
While acknowledging the real frustrations among drivers over low earnings and increasing safety concerns, the association has confirmed that no official protest has been organised.
WCEA Secretary-General Omar Parker said:
“We want to make it clear that no protest or strike action has been called by the WCEA at this stage. We are actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to address the ongoing challenges facing e-hailing operators.”
He further warned that any uncoordinated protest action could have serious consequences, especially as the operating license application process for drivers is set to begin on 1 July.
The WCEA has called on drivers and the broader public to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
