Reporter – George April
Ocean View:- In a targeted operation to root out the causes of crime in the Ocean View area, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, made several key arrests during the early hours of Monday morning.
The operation, aimed at tackling extortion and related crimes, began at a residential address where a 37-year-old suspect was arrested after police discovered 674 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition, intended for multiple firearm calibres, was confiscated as part of the investigation into illegal arms possession.
Acting swiftly on further intelligence, officers moved to a second address where a 36-year-old male was caught with 802 mandrax tablets, carrying an estimated street value of R45,000. The suspect is expected to face charges of drug possession and dealing.
In a separate and unrelated arrest, a 34-year-old man was detained after being found with 11 sachets of cocaine and a large amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of criminal activity. He will also face charges for possession and dealing in narcotics.
These arrests form part of SAPS’ ongoing effort to dismantle criminal networks operating in communities and to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
The investigation continues.
