Baby’s Body Discovered in Plastic Bags Near Khayelitsha Train Station

Khayelitsha:-  A heartbreaking discovery shocked the Khayelitsha community on Sunday morning when the body of an infant was found stuffed inside plastic bags near Chris Hani Train Station.

According to police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk, Makhaza police registered an inquest following the incident.

“Makhaza police registered an inquest on Sunday 21 September 2025 at 9:40am following an incident at Chris Hani Train Station. Anyone with information about this fatal incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the Mobile application MySaps anonymously,” said Van Wyk.

The baby was discovered by a resident who went to discard rubbish and stumbled upon the horrifying scene. The motive and circumstances surrounding the infant’s death remain unclear at this stage.

The case has sparked outrage and sorrow on social media, with community members demanding justice and stronger interventions to protect vulnerable children.

  • “We need more awareness and safe spaces for desperate mothers.  A tragedy like this should never happen again.” – said a local community activist CCN spoken too.

The community is urged to assist police with any information that could lead to those responsible.
