Abalone Bust in Rawsonville

R3,3 Million Seized

Rawsonville:- An intelligence-driven operation between the Breederiver K9 Unit and Sea Fisheries,  resulted in the seizure of a massive haul of abalone on Monday, 22 September 2025.Acting on information received, members intercepted a truck en route to Cape Town at the weighbridge on the N1 near Rawsonville. A thorough search uncovered 13 341 units of abalone, with an estimated street value of R3,3 million.

A male and female suspect were arrested on the spot for possession of abalone.

Police confirmed that once charged, both suspects will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court.

Authorities praised the joint operation, highlighting the importance of intelligence-sharing in combating marine resource crimes.
