Crews Monitor Hotspots
CCN Reporting
Cape Town:- SANParks has confirmed that the wildfire which broke out in the Camps Bay area has been successfully contained.
Fire crews made steady progress overnight and into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
An estimated 25 hectares of vegetation were affected by the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fresh teams – about 50 firefighters across five crews – have been deployed to monitor and extinguish hotspots. Enviro Wildfire Consultancy is assisting with thermal drone flights to detect underground heat pockets, while aerial support is expected to continue during the day.
Trail Closures
As a precaution, several popular hiking routes remain closed until further notice:
- Footpaths and Jeep Tracks leading to Camps Bay
- Pipe Track
- Theresa Avenue and Geneva Avenue
- All access paths from Back Table and Apostle Battery into Camps Bay
- Trails above the Twelve Apostles
Heatwave Warning
With the South African Weather Service warning of uncomfortable heat and a high fire danger index, SANParks has urged park users and hikers to take extra care. Safety tips include carrying enough water, avoiding hikes during peak heat hours (11:00 – 15:00), wearing sun protection, sticking to designated trails, and remaining alert to smoke or fire.
Ground crews will stay on site given the extreme weather conditions.
Community Support
SANParks extended its gratitude to Pick n Pay Waterfront and Simply Asia for donating food, water, and energy drinks to support exhausted firefighters. Members of the public can also contribute by dropping off supplies at the Newlands Fire Base.
Authorities thanked all firefighters, partners, and the public for their cooperation during the operation.
