Cape Town:-  A significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the brutal killing of seven men in Gugulethu over the weekend.

Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit arrested a 35-year-old suspect in Cape Town’s City Centre on Monday evening in connection with the mass shooting.

The attack, which occurred during the early hours of Saturday, 28 June 2025, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an intensive police investigation.

While the suspect is now in custody and expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon, police confirmed that the investigation is far from over. The search continues for at least one more suspect believed to be involved.

Authorities have since launched a manhunt for Loyiso Matinisi, who is wanted in connection with the case. Members of the public are urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Matinisi is requested to contact Sergeant Sithembele Sambunjelwa from the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit on 073 416 5224. Police have assured that all information will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
