CAPE TOWN:- EFF leader Julius Malema has been dealt a major political blow, after being found guilty in court on Thursday.
The judgment, which marks another serious setback for the firebrand politician, comes as Malema continues to face pressure inside and outside Parliament.
In the wake of his conviction, Malema called on Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, to testify before a parliamentary inquiry probing allegations of political interference in policing and links to criminal syndicates.
But McKenzie, leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), wasted no time in dismissing Malema’s demand.
“I don’t listen to Julius Malema,” McKenzie said firmly. “He must forget about mentioning the PA. He must go to the dying party of his that’s in ICU.”
McKenzie made it clear he would not allow Malema to claim credit for any of his political moves. While the PA may consider providing a written statement to Parliament, McKenzie said he would not be pressured into testifying because of Malema’s calls.
The Inquiry
The inquiry, led by an ad hoc parliamentary committee, is investigating allegations of interference in policing and possible connections between senior political figures and criminal networks. KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is expected to testify on October 7 and 8.
What This Means
Malema’s guilty verdict and McKenzie’s hard-hitting response highlight the deepening political rifts ahead of crucial testimony in Parliament. With Malema under legal scrutiny and McKenzie drawing firm battle lines, the stakes in the inquiry have escalated.
