Western Cape:- Child rapes have been in the news frequently in recent weeks, and it is definitely a cause for concern, a woman told Cape Coast News (CCN) on Saturday.

This after news broke of a 12-year-old girl who was raped by her father in Laingville, St Helana Bay.  “These are times when communities like these need to stand up and put such scumbags to death,” the woman expressed her frustration.
CCN contacted the police, who did not confirm or deny the incident.  According to the police’s media liaison officer, the case is very sensitive and the police cannot provide any information.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man was arrested in George on Sunday, May 25, on charges of kidnapping and rape.

This follows the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl on Saturday May 24th.  According to media sources, the arrest followed a collaborative effort between the George Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (DVS), the Community Safety Structures and Local Security Companies.  Western Cape Police Sergeant Christopher Spies stressed the commitment of all role players to justice, and urged the public to provide any further information that could assist the FCS Unit’s investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred when two girls from Conville were walking along York Street near the George Cemetery. The adult man approached them and convinced them to follow him to a nearby shop. From the shop, the girls were escorted to an open field near Airport Road (R102), where the 10-year-old was allegedly raped. The second girl, however, escaped and informed her family, who immediately began a search for the girl.
The kidnapper was only located the following Sunday morning, after investigation teams followed up on information to Syferfontein near Pacaltsdorp, where the suspect was found. Further investigation led police to a residence between the N2 and Airport Road, where the victim was found.

The girl was immediately taken to a medical facility for care, with the suspect arrested.  He will appear in court once charged, with additional charges as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, a Cape Town court has granted an order that the 51-year-old man accused of raping a nine-year-old girl from Hanover Park, can be identified.

Igshaan Williams, a convicted child rapist, appeared in a packed Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Friday, on charges of human trafficking, rape, sexual assault and kidnapping.  At the time of Williams’ trial, the court heard that he was released on parole in November 2024, after being convicted of a similar crime in 2005.  According to CCN’s source,  it was for the rape of a 10-year-old girl.  Williams’ latest charge is that he lured the 9-year-old girl into his home on May 13, then drugged and raped her.

The case was postponed on Friday to July 25, 2025 for further investigation.
