Reporter – George April

Camps Bay,:-  A swift, coordinated response by multiple agencies led to the successful apprehension of a suspect involved in a robbery in the mountainous terrain above Kloof Road late yesterday afternoon.

The operation unfolded after SANParks Rangers, who were conducting routine patrols in the area, encountered a suspicious individual. When approached for questioning, the man suddenly fled into the Big Glen area, prompting immediate concern.

Shortly after the individual’s flight, Camps Bay CID was alerted to a robbery reported on the mountain above the closed-off section of Kloof Road. The description of the suspect provided by the victim bore strong similarities to the individual SANParks had just engaged.

Drawing on their shared intelligence and rapid coordination, SANParks, Camps Bay SAPS, Law Enforcement, private security partners, and specialist K9 tracking teams launched a full-scale manhunt across the challenging terrain.

Thanks to the collaborative effort,  including Camps Bay CID tactical officers and their control room team.  The suspect was located, apprehended, and taken into custody. The stolen items and weapon used in the robbery were successfully recovered.

A case has been opened at the Camps Bay SAPS and the investigation is ongoing.

Camps Bay CID expressed deep gratitude to all involved:

SANParks for their vigilance and critical early intel

SAPS, Law Enforcement, CCP, PPA, and the K9 Trailing Unit for their fast, professional response

The CID Control Room team, including the operations director who personally assisted with coordination and victim support

“This was a textbook example of inter-agency collaboration in action,” said a Camps Bay CID representative. “From the initial alert to the final arrest, every unit played a vital role in ensuring the safety of our mountain spaces and community.”

Residents are reminded to remain cautious when hiking in remote areas and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
