Suspects Arrested Within Hours of Break-Ins and Drug Bust

BONTEHEUWEL: Criminals targeting homes and schools in Bonteheuwel received a clear message this morning: this community will not look the other way.
While many residents were still asleep, suspects broke into a home in Kiaat Avenue and a primary school. They may have believed they would get away with it. They were wrong. Within just two to three hours, information received through the community Tip-Off Line helped lead to the arrest of all the suspects involved.
Shortly afterwards, residents alerted the community to a property in Lepelhout Street allegedly selling drugs to children and teenagers. Action was taken immediately. A substantial quantity of drugs was recovered, and the suspect was arrested.
“This is what happens when a community stops looking the other way,” said Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie.
In a strong message directed at criminals, gangsters and drug dealers, McKenzie warned:
“We are watching: Our community is watching, and we will not back down.
- Our children are not your customers.
- Our schools are not your playground.
- Our streets are not yours to control.”
He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to work with residents, share information, support law enforcement, and use every lawful means available to reclaim the streets.
“Bonteheuwel will not surrender. We protect our own. We fight back. We stand united.”
