Anti-Gang Unit Moves In
Reporter – Mark Anthony
Cape Town:- The City of Cape Town’s Shot Spotter technology registered continuous gunfire on Wednesday 17th, in the gang-troubled suburb of Manenberg.
The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) was immediately deployed and carried out self-initiated operations to clamp down on the main aggressors involved in ongoing turf conflicts between rival gangs.
Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed that several suspects were arrested on serious charges, including:
Possession of a prohibited firearm
Illegal possession of ammunition
Possession of drugs
All suspects are being detained at Manenberg SAPS and are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon.
Authorities praised the swift action of the Anti-Gang Unit but also acknowledged the ongoing reality for residents caught in the crossfire.
“These shootings continue to traumatize families, children, and the elderly in Manenberg. We need sustainable solutions, not just arrests after the fact,” a community activist told CCN.
