Western Cape:- Crime continues to spiral out of control across several Western Cape communities, with multiple violent incidents reported over the weekend.
Murder in Atlantis
In the early hours of Saturday morning, between 5 am and 6 am, residents of Crow Court, Dura Flats in Atlantis woke to the shocking discovery of a young man stabbed to death.
According to early reports, the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest. It is alleged that the suspect, who is known to the community, has since fled and is currently on the run.
Community members have been urged to assist authorities with any information on the suspect’s whereabouts or to come forward as witnesses to the brutal murder.
“We encourage residents to come forward and share what they know, this community deserves justice,” said a local crime watch member.
Hashtags like #piempjoberk, #piempjokind, #piempdiesteker, and #piempdiemoordernaar – calling for residents to “speak up” – have been circulating widely on local Facebook groups.
Shooting Incident Claims Two Lives
Later the same day, reports emerged that three people were shot, two of whom died on the scene, while a third victim was rushed to hospital for treatment. The location of the shooting has not yet been officially confirmed, but it forms part of a growing wave of violence affecting communities across the Western Cape.
Factreton Under Fire
Meanwhile, Ward 56 Councillor Cheslyn Steenberg issued a statement to residents following another series of shootings in Factreton.
“Since yesterday afternoon, we recorded shootings in Factreton. One male was shot and killed in 18th Avenue with one male injured – same scene,” Cllr Steenberg confirmed.
“This morning, two males were shot in Glider Crescent and taken to hospital for treatment.”
Steenberg expressed deep concern for the escalating gang-related violence, which he says now affects “many people on different levels, going to work, to school, clinic, and day hospital.”
He urged residents to unite and act:
“We must unite NOW and take a stand against this gang violence. We cannot remain silent. See something. Say something. Information remains confidential.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Cllr Steenberg directly at 083 543 1344 or the City’s Emergency Line on 021 480 7700.
“Faith without action is dead,” he concluded.
