Ex-Taxi Associate and Two Women Shot Dead – Second Fatal Shooting Hits Milnerton Within 48 Hours

Reporter – George April

Cape Town:-  Police in the Western Cape continue their investigation into a targeted triple murder in Joe Slovo informal settlement, Milnerton, where a 36-year-old man with past ties to the taxi industry and two women were gunned down late Saturday night. The incident unfolded at approximately 22:30 on 21 February 2026, at the corner of Omarombo Street and Freedom Way.  Officers responding to gunfire reports discovered a silver Toyota Avanza peppered with bullet holes. Inside were the bodies of two adult females, declared dead at the scene. A short distance away lay the body of the male victim.

Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed that, according to family information, the man had previously been involved in the taxi industry, and one of the deceased women was reportedly his girlfriend. The identity and exact relationship of the second woman have not been publicly detailed. No motive has been officially released, though the nature of the attack—multiple shots into a moving or stationary vehicle—suggests it was deliberate. Suspects remain at large, with no arrests reported.

Milnerton detectives, backed by the Provincial Serious Violent Crimes Unit, processed the scene with forensic support. The SAPS has renewed its call for public assistance: “Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS mobile application.”

The shooting has deepened fears in the area, already strained by socio-economic challenges and occasional taxi-related disputes. Adding to the shock, a second triple murder struck just over a day later on Monday, 23 February, in the nearby Ekuphumleni informal settlement in Du Noon (also under Milnerton policing). There, two men and a woman were fatally shot outside a shack in what police describe as another violent incident. This brings the death toll from gun violence in the Milnerton vicinity to six in under 48 hours, prompting renewed calls for heightened patrols and community safety measures.

Local residents and leaders have expressed outrage and trauma, with some linking the violence to ongoing tensions in informal settlements. Authorities have not confirmed connections between the two cases, but the proximity and timing have intensified concerns about gun crime in the Western Cape.

CCN Online will monitor the investigations closely for any breakthroughs, including potential links or arrests.  The public is reminded that tips can be submitted confidentially through the channels listed above.
