Woman Arrested

Reporter – George April

Cape Town:-  A multi-disciplinary crime-fighting team has successfully recovered a nine-day-old baby and arrested a woman for kidnapping, following an intensive investigation that began over the weekend.

The drama unfolded on Saturday, 28 June 2025, when the infant’s mother, who was visiting a shopping complex in Bellville, suddenly fell ill. She entrusted her newborn to a woman accompanying her while she briefly went to the bathroom. But when she returned, both the woman and her baby were gone.

The devastated mother immediately alerted Bellville SAPS, sparking a swift response from law enforcement.

A dedicated team comprising members of Provincial Organised Crime and other units worked tirelessly to trace the suspect. Through meticulous investigation and a strategic analysis of available information, the team followed leads to an address in Honolulu Street, Tafelsig, on Monday, 30 June 2025.

There, officers found the missing baby safe and well. A 37-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on charges of kidnapping.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court soon.

Authorities have praised the team’s quick action and thorough investigative work, which ensured the safe recovery of the infant.
