Cape Town:- In a significant step toward promoting access to justice, the Western Cape High Court has partnered with key legal organizations to launch the province’s first Pro Bono Legal Help Desk.
The official inauguration will take place on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, at the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town. The initiative is a joint effort between the Advocates for Transformation (AFT), National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL), South African Women Lawyers Association (SAWLA), Black Lawyers Association (BLA), ProBono.org, Legal Aid South Africa, the Cape Bar, Cape Town Attorneys Association (CTAA), and the Legal Practice Council (LPC).
The Help Desk will be strategically located between Courtrooms 17 and 18 and will provide free legal assistance to members of the public. It aims to support individuals who are unable to afford legal representation, empowering them with guidance and legal clarity in civil and related matters.
According to the organizers, this initiative marks a major milestone in efforts to bridge the justice gap and ensure legal support is more accessible to marginalized and under-resourced communities.
The Pro Bono Legal Help Desk will operate every Wednesday and Friday from 09h00 to 12h30.
Community members in need of legal help are encouraged to make use of the service. Stakeholders and civil society groups are also urged to spread the word within their networks to ensure maximum public awareness.
