CAPE TOWN:- Ongoing efforts by the South African Police Service to rid communities of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, yielded significant results this week, with seven firearms confiscated and one suspect arrested.
Members of the Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Kleinvlei to address ongoing gang violence, executed a raid at a property in Stratford Green on Monday, 25 August 2025. Upon arrival, officers found the premises abandoned. A thorough search led to the recovery of three pistols, three rifles, and ammunition, which were seized for further investigation. An enquiry docket was registered.
In a separate incident in Bishop Lavis, police acted on information regarding a wanted suspect reportedly in possession of a firearm. Officers traced the individual to 8th Avenue, Lavis Town, where he attempted to flee. Following a swift pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and found with a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his possession.
The arrested suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The SAPS continues to emphasise that community cooperation plays a vital role in curbing gang violence and removing illegal weapons from the streets.
