Cape Town – 16 February 2025 – The City of Cape Town’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department has announced a scheduled power outage affecting the Wacom area, set to commence on Monday, 17 February 2025, and continue for three consecutive days. This planned interruption is part of essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the city’s electrical grid.
The affected areas include Observatory, Salt River, and parts of Woodstock. Residents and businesses in these neighborhoods should prepare for electricity supply disruptions during the following periods:
Monday, 17 February 2025: 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM
Tuesday, 18 February 2025: 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM
Wednesday, 19 February 2025: 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM
The overnight outages are designed to minimize inconvenience and allow technical teams to perform critical maintenance and upgrades on the electrical infrastructure. These enhancements are necessary to prevent future disruptions and to accommodate the growing demand for electricity in the region.
The City has advised that while the outage durations are estimated, restoration times could be delayed due to the complex nature of the work.
