Kolbe & Roos Shine at SA Rugby Awards

CAPE TOWN:- Springbok star Cheslin Kolbe made history by becoming the first backline player in over adecade, to win the SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year award last night, at a prestigious ceremony in Cape Town.

The electrifying winger played a crucial role in the Springboks’ successful 2024 season, which included 11 victories in 13 tests and reclaiming both the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and the Freedom Cup.

On the women’s side, Nadine Roos was named SA Rugby Women’s Player of the Year for the second time in three years, recognizing her outstanding performances in both the fifteens and sevens formats.

Among the rising stars, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu was awarded Young Player of the Year after an impressive breakthrough season, while Jurenzo Julius took home the Junior Springbok Player of the Year honor. Selvyn Davids, a standout performer at the Paris Olympics, earned the Springbok Sevens Player of the Year title.

Domestically, the Carling Currie Cup Premier and First Division Players of the Year were Renzo du Plessis (Fidelity ADT Lions) and Ashlon Davids (Sanlam Boland Cavaliers), respectively. Sanele Nohamba (Emirates Lions) was recognized as SA Vodacom URC Player of the Season for his exceptional form.

The Springboks were named Team of the Year, with Rassie Erasmus securing the Coach of the Year award for leading the team to another dominant season.

Reflecting on the night, SA Rugby President Mark Alexander praised Kolbe’s achievement, calling him a worthy successor to past greats. “Cheslin has been phenomenal for the Springboks, and his recognition is well deserved,” he said. He also congratulated all the winners for their contributions to an unforgettable year in South African rugby.

With the Springbok brand now ranked among South Africa’s top 50 brands, the sport continues to thrive, setting the stage for another exciting season in 2025…!
