MOORREESBURG:- The court case of the Moorreesburg father and son, originally scheduled for today, March 20, 2025, in the Moorreesburg local courtroom, has been postponed until Tuesday, April 1.
Christiaan Pieters, who is currently being held in Riebeek West prison, was not present in court this morning, leading to the postponement. However, it remains unclear why he is currently incarcerated.
Pieters and his son, Christiano Solomons, are both facing charges for the fatal stabbing of Jenito Smith, who would have celebrated his 20th birthday next month. The deceased was 17 years old at the time of the incident, while Christiano was only 14.
According to community activist Deon Carelse, the father is also being charged with murder because he allegedly provided his son with the knife used in the attack. The stabbing occurred in the Moorreesburg town centre in front of several witnesses. Concerned that the case had gone quiet, the victim’s mother, Marinda Smith, reached out to Carelse for assistance.
Carelse confirmed that the case will have only one court appearance in Moorreesburg, before being transferred to the Malmesbury Regional Court. In the meantime, the Smith family remains hopeful that justice will be served for their lost loved one.
