Table Mountain National Park — 27 April 2025
Cape Town:- The wildfire burning through the Silvermine section of Table Mountain National Park, has intensified significantly following a sudden shift in wind direction and rising wind speeds earlier today.
The fire, which originally ignited on Friday evening, 25 April 2025, in the Upper Tokai area, had been largely brought under control by late Saturday. However, changing weather conditions on Sunday morning caused the situation to escalate rapidly.
Currently, the fire is advancing along two critical fronts:
The left flank is moving toward Tokai and Zwaanswyk.
The right flank is pushing in the direction of Noordhoek and Clovelly.
Three helicopters remain in active deployment, supporting ground crews working under a coordinated Incident Command system. Firefighters are battling the blaze in challenging conditions, alongside several emergency service units, including:
Table Mountain National Park Firefighters
City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue Services – Enviro Wildfire Services
Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS)
Western Cape Provincial Disaster Management
Additional support teams – Important Public Advisory
Authorities urgently appeal to the public to avoid the central and southern areas of Table Mountain National Park. Full access is needed for firefighting operations, and public safety remains the highest priority.
