Community in Shock

KAYAMANDI:- The Stellenbosch community has been rocked by a tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of respected former Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Mr Nyaniso Jindela, in Kayamandi on the evening of 9 June 2025.

The Stellenbosch Municipality released an official statement expressing its shock and sadness at the news, confirming that Mr Jindela was fatally shot and describing him as someone who served the community “with distinction.”
“Mr Jindela was a former Councillor who served the community with distinction, including in the role of Deputy Mayor,” the Municipality stated.
The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a full investigation, and the Municipality has pledged its full support to law enforcement.
Community members in Kayamandi and across Stellenbosch have begun mourning the loss of a leader many described as a dedicated public servant and a voice for the people.
The Municipality extended its deepest condolences to Mr Jindela’s family and loved ones during this devastating time.
