Masiphumelele:- In a targeted operation on Youth Day, 16 June 2025, members of SAPS Ocean View acted swiftly on a tip-off about an illegal firearm hidden at a residence in Dlavuza Road, Masiphumelele. 
Upon executing a search warrant, officers discovered a firearm with its serial number filed off, concealed inside a suitcase tucked away in a bedroom wardrobe. One round of ammunition was also recovered at the scene.
A 43-year-old male suspect was arrested on the spot and faces charges related to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was expected to appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates’ Court later yesterday.
The police continue to urge community members to come forward with information that can help remove illegal weapons from neighbourhoods.
“Every firearm taken off the streets is one less threat to our communities,” said a police spokesperson.
