PUBLIC CALLS FOR TOUGHER BAIL CONDITIONS
Cape Town:- A 33-year-old man was caught with a prohibited firearm and live ammunition during a police stop and search in Brentwood Park, Mfuleni, on Monday afternoon.
The arrest took place along Main Road, where officers from Mfuleni SAPS were conducting high-impact patrols to reduce gun violence and illegal weapons in the area.
The suspect is due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court, where he will face a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Public reaction was swift.
“How many more illegal guns must be found before someone admits we’re sitting on a warzone?” said a local resident in a WhatsApp group. Another wrote: “Make the law stronger, no bail for people caught with illegal guns. That’s attempted murder waiting to happen!”
Police said operations will continue, and urged residents to report illegal weapons via Crime Stop 08600 10111.
Nearly R800k in Mandrax Found in Malibu Village Home.
In one of the biggest drug funds in recent weeks, police uncovered mandrax tablets worth over R781,000.
It was find inside a house in Lima Street, Malibu Village, following a targeted operation on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, officers from Operation Restore raided the premises and arrested a 49-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs.
The house, described by neighbours as “always busy, day and night”, is believed to have been used as a base for supplying tablets across the Tygerberg area.
The bust has triggered strong reactions online.
“Why must our children grow up around this poison?” one mother commented. “It’s time the courts show us they care and send these guys away for good,” another user said.
Police praised the community for speaking up and encouraged continued tip-offs.

Body of unidentified man found near Goven Mbeki Off-Ramp
The lifeless body of an unknown man, believed to be in his sixties, was discovered in an open field near the Govan Mbeki off-ramp on Jakes Gerwel Drive around 7AM on Tuesday.
Police confirmed that Philippi SAPS has opened an inquest docket, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
No documents or phone were found on the man, and his identity remains unknown.
The discovery has triggered sadness and frustration online.
“How can someone’s father, brother, uncle just be left in a field like that?” said a woman in a community group. “We need to protect our elders better,” another man posted.
