Overhead Power Failure at Mandalay (Last Night)
CCN Reporting
Cape Town:- Commuters on the Chris Hani and Nolungile routes faced significant delays last night after an overhead power failure at Mandalay station.
According to the official Metrorail Western Cape service advisory (shared widely on WhatsApp groups last night):
Overhead power failure at Mandalay affected both inbound and outbound Chris Hani/Nolungile train services on the Central Line.
Train T9418 was reported stationary at Mandalay station. Delays of 30 – 40 minutes were expected across the line.
Commuters were strongly advised to arrange alternative transport in the affected areas.
The advisory concluded with: “We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
Current status (as of early morning 3 March):
No new official advisory has been issued by @MetrorailWC this morning regarding Mandalay or the Chris Hani/Nolungile corridor. Other minor operational delays were reported on the line today (e.g. a 15–20 minute delay on the Kapteinsklip service), but the specific Mandalay power failure does not appear to be ongoing.
Advice for commuters:
Always double-check the latest updates directly on the official @MetrorailWC X account, the Metrorail app, or the PRASA call centre (021 818 7234/35) before travelling, as Central Line faults can recur quickly.
Safe travels!
