Open Letter to the Saldanhabaai Business Chamber

Dear Sir/Madam,

Recent reports in “Saldanhabaai Nuus”  highlighted the R10 million land purchase in Paternoster, approved by the DA-led municipality despite financial concerns raised internally.

As a representative body of the local business community, the Chamber’s voice is crucial in matters of transparency, financial accountability, and sustainable development.

We would like to ask the Chamber to clarify the following:

  1. Were you, as representatives of business, consulted by the Mayor or municipal officials regarding this land deal?

  2. If such meetings did take place, what concerns or recommendations did you raise?

  3. In your view, does this purchase align with the long-term economic and social needs of Saldanhabaai, or could alternative, more cost-effective options have been considered?

  4. How does the Chamber believe such major financial decisions should be approached to balance growth with accountability?

The community deserves clarity, and the Chamber’s response will play an important role in ensuring that the public is informed and that decisions of this magnitude are openly debated.
