About School Suspensions and Youth Neglect Rise
CCN News
Hopefield:- Concern and frustration are mounting in the Hopefield community, following the suspension of two learners from Hopefield Primary School this morning.
According to a community member, the suspensions come amid growing worries about how children are being treated and supported, both at school and within the wider community.
A parent told the Hopefield Community Forum yesterday, that his daughter has been facing “hell” at the same school. As the HGF Chairperson, i urged the parent to immediately open a case with the Hopefield SAPS, adding that “too many children are being emotionally damaged, suspended, or pushed away instead of being guided and supported.”
“We have hundreds of children in our small community who no longer attend school. Most are still in primary phase, and if we keep stay quiet now, what future will they have?”
He further highlighted the community’s disappointment with Kropz, whose computer lab at the Thusong Centre in Oudekraalfontein was closed less than a year after opening.
“What was meant to help children and youth with computer access and learning opportunities has failed completely. The facility was handed to the Saldanha Bay Municipality, which can hardly manage the larger towns in its area. Where will the money come from to sustain that project?” April asked.
He added that when Kropz opened the computer room, he had raised concerns about moving youth away from the library where they had access to books. “It was never about the computers, it was about keeping our children close to education and reading. Sadly, everything we feared has now happened,” he said.
The HGF called on parents, educators, and community leaders to unite and demand accountability from both the school authorities and Kropz, who have a social responsibility toward Hopefield’s people.
“Enough is enough. Our children’s future is at stake,” April concluded.
