Cape Town:- One more illegal firearm is off the streets of Lavender Hill after the Anti-Gang Unit acted on a community tip-off late last night.
Acting swiftly on information from vigilant Steenberg residents, officers conducted targeted patrols in the area. They uncovered an unlicensed handgun and 30 rounds of ammunition cleverly concealed inside a pillowcase, hidden between a mattress and its base.
The suspect was unable to produce any licence for the weapon and was arrested on the spot.
The Steenberg Con as a direct result of residents refusing to stay silent.
“Every illegal firearm taken off the street makes a difference,” the CPF said. “This is a powerful reminder of how important community information is in helping SAPS remove these dangerous weapons before they fall into the wrong hands. Thank you to the residents who continue to speak up and partner with police to keep our families safer.”
In areas like Lavender Hill, where gun violence remains a daily threat, successes like this show what’s possible when communities and the Anti-Gang Unit work together. Police and the CPF are urging anyone with information on illegal firearms or suspicious activity to report it immediately – your call could be the one that saves lives.
Well done to the unit and to the brave residents who tipped them off.
